HelloFresh

HelloFresh launched in the US in 2012 and now ships to nearly every ZIP code in the country, with distribution centers spread across the map to keep delivery windows tight. The recipe library rotates weekly and leans on a house spice blend and pre-portioned sauces, so a Tuesday chicken dish and a Thursday pasta share the same 30 to 45 minute prep window. Add-ons like garlic bread, dessert, and a protein boost show up at checkout, which is where the bill tends to creep past the advertised price.

Skipping a week takes a few clicks in the account settings, and the deadline is usually the Wednesday before the next Wednesday delivery, so late cancellations do happen if you’re not paying attention. The recipe cards are genuinely good for building cooking confidence, since portions and timing are spelled out step by step. Where HelloFresh loses people is packaging: between the liner, the ice packs, and individual sauce packets, a week’s boxes generate more trash than a grocery run would.
