Lean Kitchen Co. is a meal prep franchise that cooks fresh, ready-to-heat meals in local kitchens and sells them from its own storefronts, for pickup or local delivery. It's not a kit and it doesn't ship boxes across the country; you order from the store nearest you. The homepage's promises are "No Artificial Preservatives | Packed with Protein | Chef Prepared | Just Heat & Eat," with "Fresh, never frozen meals with over 30 different grab & go meal options!" Its stated mission is "to save you time & money by providing you with healthy, prepared meals that are delicious." If there's a Lean Kitchen near you, it works like a healthy takeaway you can stock your fridge from.

How ordering works

You start by choosing your location, because "Meal Plans vary by location." Then you pick a plan. "Set It and Forget It!" is a recurring plan: you "set a default weekly order, then easily modify, skip or pause it each week," and it comes with "5% off on this plan and FREE delivery." "Week-To-Week" lets you "pick and choose what you want to order and change it up each week" from the full menu, with no recurring plan.

Either way, you "Choose however many meals you need with a minimum order of $50." The store then prepares your order and delivers it "straight to your home, office, or preferred location," or has it ready for pickup in-store. You can also walk in and buy off the shelf; several reviews on the homepage come from people who stopped in on the way past or while traveling for work.

There's a rewards app. You check in at the register to earn points, then redeem them for "a Free Meal (2000 points), $20 in Reward Dollars (7500 points), $40 in Reward Dollars (15000 points) or $60 in Reward Dollars (25000 points)." The app doesn't take meal orders; it links you to the website for that.

What it costs

The national website doesn't print meal prices, and since menus vary by location, the numbers are left to your local store's ordering page. What is published: the $50 minimum, the 5% discount and free delivery on the Set It and Forget It plan, and the reward thresholds above. Delivery fees for Week-To-Week orders aren't stated on the national pages. There's no introductory first-order offer on the homepage; there is an e-gift card.

The food itself

The menu page shows 127 meals across locations, with filters for Low-Carb (41), Gluten Friendly (54), Dairy Free (60) and Plant Based (2). Dishes include a Honey BBQ Power Bowl, Homestyle Lemon Chicken (tagged dairy free, gluten friendly and low-carb), Country Beef & Maple Sweets, Farmhouse Breakfast Tacos, a Tuscan Summer Wrap, Lite Kick Chicken Pasta, Coastal Mango Shrimp, a Teriyaki Crunch Wrap, Firecracker Salmon, a low-carb Brunch Burger Bowl, Bacon Cheeseburger Tacos and a Caribbean Mango Medley. One reviewer recommends the roasted red potato bowl.

The company says meals are "prepared from scratch in our local kitchen," and "fresh, never frozen." The national site doesn't show calories, macros or heating times for individual dishes; those depend on your store's menu. With only 2 plant-based dishes in the count, it's firmly a protein-forward, meat-and-fish menu.

The founder's own account on the About page includes customers who say they've come off diabetes or blood pressure medication or lost weight "just from eating our meals." Those are anecdotes the founder relays, not results the company has measured, and we'd treat them that way.

Who it reaches

Reach depends entirely on franchise locations. The site's store finder and "Complete Store List" point you to your nearest store, and the About page says the company expanded "to over 10 locations nationwide" after opening its first franchise in Guntersville, Alabama. Stores list their own email and phone details. If there's no location near you, there's no nationwide shipping option on the site; this is a local service.

The company

Austin Evans and JR met at a gym in St. Joseph, Missouri, in 2015. Evans ran a supplement store and JR a small meal prep side business, and they started experimenting with recipes "in the back of Fit Republic." The first official Lean Kitchen later opened in St. Joseph, moved into the Green Acres building as it grew, a second store followed in Maryville, Missouri, and the first franchise launched the national expansion. The company says Entrepreneur Magazine has recognised it among the top food franchises, and a franchising veteran, Jim Sahene, joined in late 2020. Some locations also sell supplements, which one reviewer mentions. Evans frames the business around advice rather than upselling: "I've never been in business to sell the most expensive products to every customer, but to educate them on how they need to be eating and only recommend what is necessary." In the same spirit, the site offers a free Lean Kitchen workout program alongside the meals.

The reviews on the homepage, chosen by the company, lean on convenience. A parent says it has given the family more time together during the week; a business traveller says it solved eating well on the road; another customer says they "never thought I would actually be excited to eat a warmed up meal." The staff get repeated praise for knowing the products.

What the site leaves open, and who it suits

Prices, nutrition figures, delivery fees and delivery areas all live at the store level, so the national site can't tell you what you'll pay or exactly what's on your local menu. Refund policies aren't posted either, and because each store is a franchise, service and selection may differ from one location to the next.

Lean Kitchen suits people who live or work near a store and want fresh, protein-packed meals they can grab or have delivered, especially with the 5% off and free delivery on a recurring order. The menu's low-carb, gluten-friendly and dairy-free filters make it workable for several common preferences. It suits less well anyone without a nearby location, vegetarians and vegans given the tiny plant-based range, and anyone who wants to compare prices before choosing a store.
