Freezer meals you cook for the first time at home

Beehive Meals sells pre-assembled freezer meals that you cook yourself, mostly in a slow cooker. It sits between a meal kit and prepared food: the company does the shopping, chopping, measuring and mixing, then freezes the raw ingredients in a bag, and you cook the meal at home. The How It Works page puts it plainly: "We prepare and freeze fresh, raw ingredients so you can cook them for the first time at home." Meals ship frozen and keep in the freezer for up to 6 months, according to the site.

The company says it was founded in 2019 by Allyse, a mom who wanted to take the busywork out of family dinner, and it describes the food as familiar, not overly spicy, and aimed at kids and adults alike. The homepage claims 6,500+ five star reviews.

How ordering works

Beehive sells monthly menus rather than à la carte meals. Each Slow Cooker Menu is a set of 10 freezer meals, released on the first of the month, and there are separate Classic, Gluten-Free and Protein+ versions, plus a Flat Top Menu and specialty sets such as the monthly Soup Menu. You pick the set and the portion size. The FAQ is clear that you can't swap individual meals within a set, because meals are prepared and packed in batches.

Portions come in Small Family (3-4 servings), Medium Family (5-6 servings) and Large Family (7-8 servings). The company suggests a 3-quart slow cooker for the small size, 4-quart for medium and 6-quart for large. You can buy once or subscribe; the homepage says subscribing saves 10%.

Gift boxes are a big part of the business. Each holds 5 slow cooker meals in the portion size you choose, with a personalized card, and themes include New Baby, Get Well Soon, Condolences, Congratulations, Housewarming, Newlywed and a College Care Package. Seasonal boxes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Game Day, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day appear at their times of year, and some ship with their own oven or stovetop instructions. The Easter Box, for instance, is due on sale in early March 2027, ships 1–2 weeks before Easter and can come with extra Parker House rolls or cinnamon rolls.

What it costs

Prices are on the site. The September Slow Cooker Classic Menu starts from $199.00 and the Protein+ Menu from $219.00; the October Soup Menu is $199.00 and the September Soup Menu $239.00. The homepage says meals start at just $3.25 per serving; the site doesn't say which set and size that figure is based on. Gift boxes start from $109.00, and the Game Day Box is listed at $189.00. The 10% subscription saving is the ongoing discount; there's no separate first-box promotion on the menu pages. Shipping is calculated at checkout, and the site doesn't show a flat fee.

The food

The menu leans on American comfort food. A College Care Package, for example, contains Chicken Alfredo, Chicken Burrito Bowl, Classic Meatloaf, Apple Cider Pork Roast and Zesty Italian Chicken. The October soup set includes Cheeseburger Soup, Chicken Tortilla Soup, Creamy Italian Meatball Soup, Pasta Fagioli, White Bean Chicken Chili and Pork Pozole, and the full recipe list runs from Apricot Chicken and Bourbon Chicken to Carne Asada, Chicken Lo Mein and BBQ Bacon Smash Burgers on the flat top. Meals are labelled GF or DF where they're gluten-free or dairy-free. The Our Meals page gives each recipe's ingredients, nutrition facts and serving variations, and a QR code on the label links there.

Meals don't include sides. Each bag holds the protein or base, sauce and seasonings, and you serve it over rice or pasta, in tortillas, or with a salad. The company says it makes its own sauces and spice blends in-house and doesn't use unnecessary fillers. Every meal is vacuum-sealed and frozen flat, so a set of 10 stacks neatly rather than filling the freezer. One reviewer on the homepage says the large size feeds 4 adults with leftovers to spare, a useful real-world check on the serving counts.

Cooking is spelled out. Slow cooker meals can usually go in frozen or thawed, with times and temperatures printed on each label; some need water or a late addition like pasta. The site reminds you to cook beef, pork and ground meats to 160° and chicken to 165°. Flat Top meals need 24–48 hours to thaw and then take about 15–20 minutes on a griddle or skillet.

Where it delivers

The homepage says meals ship to your door anywhere in the U.S., and the gift box FAQ adds "including all 50 states". Orders take 1-3 business days to process and 1-2 days to ship. Boxes are packed with dry ice and gel ice packs in an insulated cooler bag. You don't have to be home, but meals should go into the freezer the same day, and the company notes that sauces with honey, barbecue sauce or soy sauce may feel soft on arrival, which it says is normal. Gift boxes can't be booked for an exact date, though the product page shows an estimated shipping window.

What's left open, and who it suits

The main limitation is choice: you take the whole monthly set, with no substitutions. Shipping cost only appears at checkout. And while the slow cooker menus are clearly explained, anyone without a slow cooker is limited to the Flat Top Menu. On the plus side, the footer lists a loyalty program, hero discounts, fundraisers, order tracking and a claims form, and the company was running a 4-Week Meal Prep Challenge with over $5,000 in prizes starting Sept. 22nd, 2026.

Beehive Meals suits busy families who own a slow cooker and want a freezer stocked with 10 dinners a month, particularly households with kids who prefer mild, familiar food. The larger portion sizes make it good value for big families, and the gift boxes are a practical present for a new baby or a hard week. It's less suited to adventurous eaters, single people who don't want large leftovers, or anyone who wants to pick every meal.
